The station that never sleeps.
An independent online radio station built for the moments when the world finally goes quiet.
Moonrise Radio started with a simple need: somewhere to go for calm, warm, unhurried music when everything else felt too loud, too fast or too demanding. Every existing station either cut to ads, switched to a chatty host, or shuffled into a genre that broke the mood. We wanted one thing that did not exist: a station that just keeps the calm going.
The idea behind the stream
Chillout and lounge music works best when it disappears into the background. It should not demand attention, compete with your thoughts or interrupt your sleep. It should simply be there, warm and steady, like a candle in a window. And yet most stations that claim to play relaxing music fill the gaps with ads, jingles and presenters talking over the mood.
Moonrise Radio was built as the opposite of that logic. Every track is chosen for how it sits next to the one before and after it. Energy stays low, transitions are gentle, and nothing ever breaks the calm. That is the difference between a playlist and a properly curated stream that respects the listener's time and peace.
What we play
The core sound of Moonrise Radio is Balearic chillout, lounge, downtempo and ambient music. Gentle acoustic instruments, warm analog synthesizers, soft Rhodes piano, nylon guitar arpeggios, the occasional saxophone and atmospheric textures create a continuous blanket of calm. The tempo sits between 85 and 100 BPM. Around four tracks out of five are instrumental, and when a voice appears it works as texture, not as a lead. The mood is warm, Mediterranean and peaceful.
Think Café del Mar at sunset, a terrace overlooking a still sea, the warmth of an evening with nowhere to be. Think Buddha Bar with the volume turned down, or the sound of a coastal village settling into night.
Three principles behind every track
Calm over energy
Every track is chosen for its ability to lower the temperature. No builds, no drops, no surprises. Just warmth, space and gentle movement from start to finish.
Atmosphere over structure
The best chillout music creates a feeling rather than telling a story. We favour texture and mood over verse and chorus, choosing tracks that paint a scene rather than perform one.
Continuity over novelty
Instead of chasing every new release, we build hours that feel like one long, unbroken session. A listener should be able to tune in at any moment and stay for hours without wanting to leave.
Who listens to Moonrise Radio
Our listeners are scattered across time zones and share one thing: they want music that holds a space without demanding attention. People fall asleep to it in Stockholm, study with it in Seoul, work late with it in Bucharest, meditate with it in California and host quiet dinners with it in Lisbon. Many tune in through smart speakers at home. Nobody is here for a hit. They are here for a feeling.
Why internet radio, not a playlist
Playlists are infinite but directionless. Every listener gets a different shuffle, nobody hears the same thing at the same time, and the flow resets the moment you skip a track. Radio is shared. When you tune in at midnight, other people across the world hear the same music in the same moment. There is something real about that invisible thread between listeners that streaming services have never replicated.
An independent station, built from the ground up
Moonrise Radio is not owned by a media group, a label or a tech platform. It is a fully independent operation from Romania, built and run with care for every detail. Our sister station Sunrise 85 FM covers a completely different musical world, original 80s disco and dance, but both stations share the same philosophy: build something you would actually want to listen to, then give everyone a free way to tune in.
There are no ads. There is no subscription, no paywall, no account to create and no data harvested for resale. Just the stream, the music and a single address that works on any device. You can also follow our long mixes on YouTube.
